This book is devoted to some recently developed techniques in
quantum field theory (QFT), as well as to their main applications
to different areas of parti cle physics. All together they are
known as the effective or phenomenological Lagrangian formalism.
Motivated by the enormous amount of work carried out in this field
during the last years, our purpose when writing this book has been
to give a modern and pedagogical exposition of the most relevant as
pects of the topic. We hope that our efforts will be useful, both
for graduated students in the search for a solid theoretical
background in modern phe nomenology and for more experimented
particle physicists willing to learn about this field or to start
working on it. Even though we have tried to keep the book as
self-contained as possible, it has been written assuming that the
reader is familiar, at least, with the most basic concepts and
techniques of QFT, gauge theories, the standard model (SM) and
differential geometry, at the level of graduate studies. It is
therefore possible that senior high-energy physicists may find the
book too detailed and so they could probably omit several sections.
The book is divided into two main parts and the appendices. In the
first part we introduce the fundamentals of the effective
Lagrangian formalism and other basic topics such as Ward
identities, non-linear sigma models (NLSM), spontaneous symmetry
breaking (SSB), anomalies, the SM symmetries, etc."
English Pronunciation for Speakers of Spanish fills a gaping hole
in the market for books on English phonetics and pronunciation
because it not only combines theoretical issues and applications to
practice, but it also adopts a contrastive English-Spanish approach
to better suit the needs of Spanish-speaking learners of English
(SSLE), enabling them to build gradually on the knowledge gained in
each chapter. The book covers the key concepts of English phonetics
and phonology in seven chapters written in an accessible and
engaging style: 1. Phonetics and Phonology 2. The Production and
Classification of Speech Sounds 3. Vowels and Glides 4. Consonants
5. Segment Dynamics: Aspects of Connected Speech 6. Beyond the
Segment: Stress and Intonation 7. Predicting Pronunciation from
Spelling (and vice versa) Features: in-text audio illustrations, as
well as over a hundred written and audio exercises with
corresponding keys and different kinds of artwork (Tables, Figures,
illustrations, spectrograms, etc.) classic readings in the
discipline in the Further Reading section of each chapter
highlights the phonetic contrasts and specific cues that are more
important to aid comprehension in English and offers guidelines on
"correct" pronunciation habits to help SSLE sound as close as
possible to native English The book's companion website, EPSS
Multimedia Lab, can be used on computers, smartphones and tablets,
and is useful for the self-taught student and the busy lecturer
alike. Features of the website: a complete sound bank defining and
illustrating the sounds of English RP as compared with those of
Peninsular Spanish written definitions and animated diagrams,
videos and original recordings (by native speakers of English and
Spanish) showing the articulation of each sound, alongside its most
common spellings, as well as pronunciation practice for individual
words and whole sentences a comprehensive selection of over a
hundred written and audio exercises (with their keys) for practice
both at home or in the language lab audio files corresponding to
the audio illustrations given in the written book a repository of
useful resources by topics and a list of online glossaries and
pronunciation dictionaries
To understand this book you have to go back to 1990.
I was 22 and the recession was on in Australia.
I lived alone in my one bedroom flat and got into the music and
club scene.
Overnight I started to write poetry everyday and bought my first
acoustic guitar.
The experience was profoundly spiritual and at times
supernatural.
I knew then that I had a calling and that I would follow it my
whole life.
I published my first book in 1997 (Dream Engineering) and will
republish it next.
I will also publish another much larger collection that is Dream
Engineering unedited.
These three books make up the entire story.
The book itself is best described as a spiritual, poetic, journey
to find truth.
It was written in many different locations and over a period of
ten years.
It is made up of many small, individual poems with a few long
exceptions.
The work as whole had very little editing, unlike Dream
Engineering which I heavily edited.
And now will present in it's true form. Avenue Dread is a story of
darkness that finds the light.
There are many themes that run through the entire collection. Some
of the things I try to say may be a little abstract. But overall I
think the message is clear. It has the element of love, it also has
darkness and light because these where all the things I
experienced.
Of the seventeen years I have been writing poetry I have been a
christian for the last two.
I found God and was able to finish my last book. It is my hope to
inspire people to God.
The poetry also blossomed into music which I also hope to present.
The overall goal of this book is focused on the analysis of the
impact of online store design on consumer specifically, affective,
cognitive and behavioural responses within a virtual environment.
Based on these theoretical foundations, through the creation of a
web tool as a methodological basis for the development of the
empirical analysis of this research, an experimental study between
subjects 2x2x2 was developed in order to discuss the impact of
three web elements of online environment (navigational structure,
music and animations of products) on consumer internal states
(cognitive, affective and satisfaction) and behavioural responses
(approach responses, web-duration visit, products and
money-bought). In addition, we examined the mediator effect of
three covariables (involvement, atmospheric responsiveness, and
perceived risk) between analyzed webmospheric tools and consumer
responses. As overall results, positive and significant differences
between the groups object of experimentation were obtained with
regard to the effects of independent variables mentioned on
dependent variables of the model.
